Following an intense 10-month campaign the species rich Minsterley Meadows SSSI has been purchased by and for the community!
Over £155,000 was raised by local people and organisations. That figure combined with part of a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant has enabled Middle Marches Community Land Trust to purchase the land for the local community and wildlife. Further funds granted by the National Lottery as part of the £224,000 bid will be put towards three years of management and community engagement on and around the meadows. With over 5000 Green-Winged Orchids as well as many other wildflower species the meadow is an ecological haven open for the public to enjoy!
Members of the Middle Marches Community Land Trust, Marches Meadow Group and Minsterley Meadows campaign steering group extend their sincere gratitude to those who donated their time, pledged money, spread word about the campaign. Another big thank you must go to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for their generous grant, and grateful thanks to the players of the National Lottery! The community responded to the call and this grant is your reward. It will enable us to ensure that the meadows will be enjoyed, valued, cared for and sustained, not only now but in the years to come.
