On a grey, foggy, damp January Sunday morning seven brave members (and one dog!) met at Mitchell’s Fold car park for a walk along Stapley and down into Black Marsh. Everyone waterproofed head to toe we proceeded through the drizzle up through the stone circle and along Stapley Common, with visibility at around 10 metres there was not much wildlife to spot except a few interesting lichens clinging to rocks, trees and gorse. To extend the walk the group proceeded down into the shelter of the woodlands on Black Marsh, conversations about the rich array of birds present in the woodland was had…however not a song was heard on this grey morning. Back up onto Stapley hill the group walked up to the cairns marking the highest points of the ridge before heading back down to the car park (with a little detour due to the disorientation of the fog!).
Overall a rather soggy and uneventful walk but a good time was had by all, an enjoyable walk in excellent company…but we were all glad to be heading home to the dry!
